when we're little,
we boast about being special.
we revel in it,
splash around in it,
but not too much
because it's miine,
all mine.
then there we are as adolescents
and all we want, our one desire,
is to shed our "special"ness,
to belong, to click, to fit.
&then we grow up and realize,
it doesn't really matter
whether we embrace it or not, because
we're never as special as we think.
